With the Live Parts™ for SOLIDWORKS Add-in, users can define fixtures that lock (or fix) the cells that contact specific surfaces in their Live Parts design. When a surface is fixed, it is prevented from moving or deforming in all directions. In future releases we anticipate adding partially fixed degrees of freedom to allow for sliding and other constraints. You can define forces using the method outlined below.
Select Fixture in the Add-in toolbar.
Click on the Surfaces box and select the surface(s) in your SOLIDWORKS assembly to which the fixture will be applied.
Notes on fixtures
Fixture surfaces should be coincident with surfaces of attractor gradients, or at least be coincident with a start location on a seed cell. This is so as to ensure that during the Live Parts growth process, cells will be present in the vicinity of a fixed surface in order to trigger the fixing of these cells. Typically, users will place a seed cell start location on a datum point contacting a fixed surface, or set the seed cell to start at a gradient that contains a fixed surface.
