New features in Live Parts v1.6
Released on September 4, 2018
- UPDATE Improved GPU-based snapping and smoothing
During the smoothing operation, Live Parts snaps cell boundaries to the precise geometry of the pre-defined gradients (attractors and containers). Live Parts also smooths the free-form mesh geometry created during the growth process. These operations now operate largely in the GPU, leveraging the 3000 cores on each Live Parts VM to complete smoothing operations. As a result, smoothing for most Live Parts designs now takes around 10 seconds - up to a 50x performance improvement in some cases.
- NEW Auto-Update for new releases of the Live Parts for SOLIDWORKS Ad-In
The new release (v1.6) of the Live Parts for SOLIDWORKS Add-In automatically checks for the latest release and will auto perform an auto-update if there is a newer version. Users will no longer have to download and install the Add-in when new versions are released.
- UPDATE Automated seed cell placement for symmetry planes
In Live Part models with Symmetry planes, when using the Connections feature, Seed Cell start locations are now placed such that they respect the symmetry planes, significantly increasing the rate at which Live Parts designs reach a symmetrical state.
- UPDATE Modified growth rate and strain threshold throttle
Live Parts now gradually throttles up the growth rates and strain thresholds at the beginning of the growth process in order to ensure the successful growth of robust designs.
- UPDATE Controls for overriding strain thresholds
Live Parts now includes separate controls for independently overriding the minimum or maximum strain thresholds for cells. Users can now modify the minimum strain threshold, below which cells are removed, as well as the upper strain threshold, above which new cells are spawned - this allows for a higher level of control in Live Parts designs.
