Live Parts™ allows users to adjust material properties in real-time during the growth process and within the design environment. Users can modify forces via the Cell Properties Window, which can be viewed by selecting View->Cell Properties from the Live Parts menu bar.
Adjusting material properties
- When opening/importing a Live Parts design parameter file with a specified material (selected using the SOLIDWORKS Add-in), the Specify Material Props box in the Cell Properties Window will be checked by default with the material listed below.
- Click the Materials button in the Cell Properties Window to open up the Materials dialog.
- Adjust the selected material by selecting an option from the dropdown list (the properties for the newly selected material are visible to the right of the Materials dialog).
- Click Apply.
Specifying a material also activates the Safety Factor parameter, which controls the design generation such that the maximum stresses in the design should fall below the safety factor multiple of the yield stress for the specified material (i.e. if the Yield Stress is 220 MPa and the safety factor is set to 2, then Live Parts will generate a steady-state design that does not experience more than 110 MPa of stress). If users have defined repeller gradients that prevent growth of the design in high stress areas, then the steady-state design may still have regions where the stress exceeds the maximum allowed, as defined by the material properties and safety factor. Users can adjust the safety factor by clicking and dragging the Safety Factor slide bar.
